01/2001 to 01/2010: Controller & Back Office Manager for an International Medical Devices Company
Member of the board and Host Manager for Swiss commercial entity & Vice Chairman of a Nuclear Medicine company. Manage a staff compliment of 16 personnel from finance, customer service, IT, marketing services and administration services and responsible for out-sourced logistics and technical services. $60 million turnover.
The main responsibility of this role was to manage the finance department and provide strong financial leadership. Responsibilities for Customer Service (including contracts/pricing) and other back office functions. Development and maintenance of a strong Internal Controls framework and improvements in financial reporting. In Jan 2008 the company announced a restructuring plan and in Oct 2008 the Swiss Customer Services tasks were successfully migrated to the Shared Service Centre in Dublin, Ireland and in May 2009 the Swiss finance organization migrated its transactional activities to our Shared Service Centre in Prague. My task was to ensure a successful transformation of both activities and the ongoing successful operation of the business. The Swiss migration to the Shared Service Centres in Dublin and Prague were successful and the targeted headcount reduction was achieved within the timeframe set.
03/1998 to 10/2000: Group Financial Manager for an International Travel Agency in Cape Town, South Africa.
• Responsible for the financial and accounting functions of the group via control of the AccPac network-based computerised accounting system.
• Preparation of Consolidated Financial Statements for audit purposes, according to GAAS.
• Responsible for cash management, budget and cash flow forecasting.
02/1997 to 02/1998: Interim Financial Consultant. Various assignments for both local and international corporations in the medical and tourism industries. For example, European Financial Director of a Canadian Medical Devices company listed on the American Stock Exchange. Employed on a contractual basis to set-up, organise and administer the European Head Office in Zug, Switzerland.
04/1995 to 01/1997: Swiss International Bank based in Zürich. Project management - Funding at Market Conditions and the implementation of a Global Activity Based Management Accounting system worldwide.
10/1992 to 03/1995: Senior Auditor for Coopers & Lybrand, Zürich. Member of audit teams engaged on various audits of large international companies. Johnson & Johnson, AT&T, NCR Graphics, Richemont, Ascom, SwissAir, etc.
01/1991 to 08/1992: General Manager for South African based Wine Importers and Distributors in London, UK. To set into operation and manage the United Kingdom division of the Wine-of-the-Month Club, South Africa.
