Present Position, Programme/Project Director, Magrathea Solutions Limited
Independent Project, Programme, Change Management and IT Solutions Consultancy. Recent assignment for a major mobile telephone operator, to deliver an automated H/W and S/W control system integrated within a multi-media promotional kiosk unit.

1998 – 2001, Project Director, ICL Projects & Professional Services
Design and development of an innovative £10M Point of Service solution for a UK-wide services organisation, integrating new application S/W on custom designed H/W, in ~650 outlets, connected over an ISDN network with central systems.
Developed stock and customer databases, electronic parts catalogue and implementation of a mail network throughout the company.
Managed ICL’s operational interface with client’s project team and IS Director, throughout the bid, design and integration phases. Supported the Client Director with the commercial relationship and managed all project finances.

1994 – 1998, Business Operations Manager, ICL Solution Centre
Established and managed a Systems Integration projects business with responsibility for a team of Project Management, Systems Design and Integration Consultants.
Established the ‘Large Projects’ and ‘International Projects’ businesses, operating profitably to business plans. Developed operating processes and systems.
Introduced the Project Management and Systems Engineering ‘communities’ and organised an extensive programme of staff development and accreditation to underpin a professional projects organisation.
Revenue growth was > 50% per year. 1997 revenue ~ £12M with projects portfolio varying from £100K to £6M. Achieved a reputation as ICL’s Advanced Systems Integration Centre.

1993 – 1994, Principal Project Manager, ICL Telecommunications.
Responsible for the design, development and introduction programmes for applications products for the telecommunications industry and technical authority for telecommunications products. Established and operationally managed collaborative developments with UK & South African S/W houses and introduced the processes to support product development.

1982 – 1993, Development/Product Centre Manager, ICL Office Systems
Design, development and global support of ICL servers. Product Authority for DRS 400/500/6000 UNIX servers and System 25. DRS 6000 was the world's first server to run UNIX v.4 and received a Queen's award for export achievement.
Developed DRS 6000 from concept to initial release, on time and within budget. Managed enhancement programmes to DRS 6000 and expanded the range integrating technology developed on 3 sites, in the UK and USA. Managed product introduction (manufacturing and customer services), international approval and worldwide support for these products. Established and maintained collaborative ventures with USA based corporations.
Design, development, verification and roll out of a fault tolerant data collection system, customised for installation in telephone exchanges, to provide itemised billing. Design and development of a resilient retail system and subsequent installation in four Baltic ferries
Introduced and re-engineered processes and tools for product development and systems integration. Maintained and developed a total quality management system to ensure conformance to BS5750/ISO9000.
Staff management and career development of design, development and validation engineers, S/W programmers, draughtsmen, operations and support engineers (typically 40/50 staff).
