CAREER HISTORY

Furnuman Ltd, Birmingham October 2001– December 2001
Consultant (jvh consulting services)

Operations review of: S.O.P., Supply Chain, Productivity, Stock Control and Distribution.

ITV digital (previously ONdigital), Battersea March 2001 – September 2001
Project Consultant (jvh consulting services)

Specifying, selecting, issuing and approving the I.T.T. for: delivery, collection, swop outs & warehousing operations of ITV digital. Total contract value of £3.5m, which went to Lynx Parcels and their 3rd party warehouse provider Zendor Fulfilment Ltd.

Trinity Mirror Newspaper Group, Canary Wharf August 2000 – February 2001
Snr. Project Mgr. (Effective/Implement Consulting)

Undertook 4 Opportunity Reviews within the group, identifying high levels of inefficiency, and poor alignment of staff working hours/shifts to work flows. Developed and trained local Management in understanding SLA’s and using a ‘master crewing schedule’. Set Company wide KPI’s, defined and specified areas of savings, and then ‘implemented’ the cost reduction programmes as part of a consultant-client project team.

gm2 logistics, Coalville April 2000 – July 2000
Interim Managing Director-Operations (jvh consulting services)

I was requested by the shareholders of gm2 (MoDo paper merchants & J McNaughton paper) to remove the inplace M.D. and Ops Dir., then take full site and P&L responsibility until permanent replacements could be found. During this period I introduced new working shift patterns, set production targets for ‘all departments’ and reduced direct labour costs by 25%. The operation was a classic 9-5 manning working with an irregular (but predictable) customer base. I used ‘ring fencing’ techniques and job timings to right size the operation.

Prudential V.C. Mgt., Newcastle-under-Lyme May 1999 – March 2000
Special Projects Mgr. (Lexion logistic services)

Prudential V.C. purchased ANC parcels for £76m in Dec 1999. Prior to the purchase I was appointed to review and implement the following major operational changes whilst reporting directly to the Managing Director/C.E.O.
Route franchising as opposed to the more traditional post code franchise option
Closure of 7 failing sites and the introduction of 3 Regional ‘Super’ Hubs
Refocus of company (including Snr. Mgt.) away from the expensive and remote H.O. control, to more flexible and customer focused Regional centres with their own budgets and full P&L responsibilities

Business Post Ltd, Birmingham December 1996 – April 1999
Product Development & Logistics Director

Responsible for setting up the Logistics Division, recruiting staff in line with new added value services, and offering new sales opportunities to the franchising network. The division made £1.4m in its 1st year (25% GM) and was the ‘driver’ for home delivery services of Mothercare and Bhs. I was on both the review and acquisition team of the proposed Speed Courier purchase, recommending it ‘not to proceed’ at the 11th hour.

Amtrak Express Parcels, Walsall December 1992 – November 1996
National Night Hub Mgr.

As the Hub Manager I had full site responsibility from 6.00pm to 5.00am with a warehouse of 100,000sq’ and a multi-skilled work force of approx., 130. I recommended and introduced the use of a Vanriet 60 pier auto sorter, using Telzon bar code scanning equipment and a Sun microsystems main frame. My responsibilities included: HR, IT (non-technical), Training, Night shift direct/indirect labour and TQM.

I specialize in Right/down sizing of operations plus the removal of ineffective or non-performing Executives (at any level).
