Carrying out user acceptance testing on the output of the SysCon commercial lending software. Checking output to a test script. Reconciling the output from the management information database to the Agresso nominal ledger. Running Business Objects reports and testing for FSA reporting. Checking calculations of interest accruals and balances. Highlighting differences and problems. Reporting daily to the Financial Controller and Management Information Manager.

Dec 2003 – the Royal London Group
Extracting data from manual records to assist in the analysis of a suspense account balance of £3m. Completed data extraction for approximately 1500 items, matched items with a value of £1.5m and highlighted problems with accounting records.

· Heading the project to improve reconciliation procedures for customer receipts, with a team of three full time members plus additional co-opted staff
· Identifying & obtaining approval for changes to existing procedures and systems
· Reporting back to monthly meetings attended by Group Finance Director, Company Secretary and senior managers from Internal Audit, IT and Customer Service functions

Achievements
· Introduced procedures to reconcile customer receipts weekly – £7m per week

2000 Federal Signal Ltd
Federal Signal is a subsidiary of US group. The company designs, builds and commissions voice alarm and public address systems. These systems are used in public buildings, such as the Commonwealth Pool as well as oil and gas rigs.

· Heading the finance function, and supervision of staff of five
· Reporting to US, complying with US GAAP

Achievements
· Finalised property sale, which realised £600,000
· Filed overdue VAT returns and recovered £181,000
· Reduced debtors by £500,000 and debtors days by 36
· Corrected the 1999 accounts with more than 90 journals so that the auditors could return and complete the audit
· Arranged new bank overdraft facility of £1m
· Re-wrote the terms and conditions of sale
· Replaced the unreliable computer servers

1986 TO 1999 CWS Property and Development
CWS Property and Development administers a portfolio with a value of £150m and a rent roll of £12m, with approximately 1500 tenancies, of which 400 are residential. It also has the responsibility to provide property services to the remainder of the Group, including the development of retail property.



Operations Accountant (1993 to 1999) - Responsibilities: -
· Supervision of a team of four
· Preparation of year-end accounts packs, together with statutory accounts for subsidiaries and a joint company
· Preparation of weekly cash flow forecasts for submission to central treasury function
· VAT planning and submission of VAT returns
· Financial appraisals of tenants, contractors, property purchasers and vendors
· Accounting for property sales and acquisitions, including arranging payments with the central treasury function (largest single sale was £42m)
· Operation and development of TBS/TRAMPS – a property database package
· Working with in-house insurance brokers to ensure that the property portfolio was properly insured and that premium costs were recovered from tenants

Achievements
· Transferred £30m surplus properties from other parts of the organisation so that they could be sold or actively managed
· Achieved savings of £750000 in VAT, which otherwise would have been irrecoverable
· Set up spreadsheets for reporting on development projects (largest project £10m), which were also used for the VAT Capital Goods Scheme and tax analysis



Investment Accountant (1987 to 1993) – Responsibilities: -
· Headed HO accounts team, with five staff and functional overview of eighteen regional staff
· Appraisal of capital expenditure
· Consolidation of regional accounts, budgets and forecasts
· Co-ordination of annual valuation of the investment portfolio –valued up to £150m

Achievements
· Tested and implemented the TRAMPS computerised property database
· Restructured accounts function, resulting in closure of regional accounts departments and reduction in staff numbers by 20
· Developed spreadsheets for fixed asset accounting for the property portfolios




Regional Accountant (1986 to 1987) – Responsibilities: -
· Headed regional accounts team, with seven staff
· Preparation of budgets, forecasts, management and statutory accounts
· Financial operations of region, including credit control

· Recruited and established an accounts department from scratch
· Introduced credit control procedures, including the use of bailiffs for commercial debts
