Technical Director Management of all research and product development activities. Management of 30 people (5 directly) and budgetary responsibility of £1.7m.

* Following a site closure, integration of two technical groups, recruitment and development of new staff and demonstrable success in technology transfer to single site.
* New product introductions achieved on time and within budget included:
- A major new hardware platform for electromyography providing unit cost savings of £1500 and leading to 10% sales growth from previous model.
- A new labour and delivery monitor leading to sales four times that of previous model.
- Windows based software for monitoring fetal health during pregnancy leading to 78% sales growth of previous product. Achieved FDA clearance and first sales in the US.
* Managed relationship with Icelandic development partner for electroencephalography equipment. This stabilised sales and lead to the launch of a major new software and hardware platform.
* Project management for hand held fetal heart detector with improved performance and half the cost of the existing product.
* Program management of changes to product configuration and pricing data on JD Edwards One World system contributing to great improvements in operational efficiency.

Oxford Instruments Research Instruments 1997 to 1999
Oxford Instruments Research Instruments supplies advanced instrumentation based on cryogenics and superconductivity to the scientific research community.

Director of Marketing and Systems (Promoted 1999) Management of marketing, software, electronics and measurement systems group. Management of 27 people (7 directly) and budgetary responsibility of £1.3m.

* Stabilisation of measurement systems sales by new product launches, improvements in distribution and resolution of outstanding user base problems.
* Formed strategic relationships with suppliers of pulse tube cryocoolers, academic groups in France and Japan developing industrial processes for superconducting magnets and with partners for development of ultra low temperature equipment for production of hyperpolarised gases as MRI contrast agents.

Marketing Manager Management of all marketing activities in Research Instruments. Management of 11 people (4 directly) and budgetary responsibility of £0.6m

* Reformed marketing group by recruiting and training four product managers. Revitalised marketing communications with new brochures, advertising campaigns and PR.
* Led preparation and presentation of Research Instruments 1998/99 strategic plan.
* Initiated and project managed initial stages of development of a revolutionary superconducting X-ray detector between several Oxford Instruments companies.

Oxford Instruments Microanalysis Group 1989 to 1997
Oxford Instruments Microanalysis Group supplies X-ray microanalysis systems and accessories to electron microscopes users.

Marketing Manager (Promoted 1995) Management of marketing mix for several high technology products selling to an international market.

* Championed, managed, developed (when in technical role) and introduced to international market a new product for crystallographic analysis in the scanning electron microscope. This product generated £500,000 revenue in its first year.
* Initiated and subsequently launched product with a Japanese manufacturer of a combined X-ray microanalysis system and defect review tool to maintain sales of microanalysis equipment to semiconductor equipment users.

R&D Resource Manager (Promoted 1989) Management of 7 scientific programmers and all applications software in company.

* Development & project management of Microsoft Windows software of the Link ISIS X-ray microanalysis system. This involved management of a team of 10 people over a three-year period. Following its launch, this product quickly gave Oxford Instruments Microanalysis Group a dominant market position.
