Reporting to the Chief Executive, and a share holder in this GBP12.5 million management buyout of a privately owned company, with a ,12 million turnover, specialising in the development and production of formulations for clinical trials supplies and contract manufacture of solid dose, liquid & cream products.
Full budgetary responsible for all production, formulation development, production control, warehousing & despatch, engineering, security and general site management employing 64 staff. Commercially responsible for all contractual and regulatory agreements, costing and profits within my business unit turning over GBP 9.3 million .

Successfully obtained FDA PAI approval for two products.
NEBOSH (Cert) qualified , responsible for implementing H&S systems and COSHH assessment.
Initiated EMS system and began preparation for ISO 14001

Director of Production - Wyeth Laboratories Ltd., Havant 1992 - 1996

Promoted from Whitehall Laboratories to manage a fivefold increase in output as more than 150 products in 340 pack presentations were introduced, from around Europe, during a major manufacturing rationalisation making it the most complex plant in Europe for product processes, routing and product variety. Led the design, specification and equipping of a GBP 4m production extension and GBP 8m other refurbishment to 40% of existing facilities and achieved on time Medicines Control Agency (MCA) validation and approval. Introduced a formal product introduction / change control process ensuring timely delivery and accurate cost estimates.

Working through a staff of 5 senior managers and 12 managers I was responsible for: -

Bulk Manufacturing and Packaging - 34 Team Leaders and 187 operators on mixed shifts including 2 X 12 hrs during periods of heavy demand for seasonal products
Warehousing ¡Vimproved service level to production, inventory accuracy (65->96%), morale and space utilisation.
Fine Chemical Unit - synthesizing pharmaceutical active ingredients for own products and general sale. Operating on continuous shifts under strict safety conditions using flammable solvents and hazardous materials for organic synthesis.
Production /Product Support - product/process development group, administration function handling master documentation and procedures, production training and management services/work study


Director of Manufacturing - Whitehall Laboratories, Wrafton, Devon 1987 - 1992.

Responsible for all manufacturing and packaging operations. Initiated and led the project to computerise pack specification allowing faster response to customer change requests. I was Project leader for implementation of MRPII. On announcement of factory closure I led a rationalisation project team to transfer production to other Wyeth sites and joined an MRPII project team in USA preparing for greenfield plant in Eire. Specified and trialled ,1.5m of equipment to move Anadin production to Eire.

Packaging Manager. 1984 ¡V 1986

Packaging 500,000 packs per day OTC brand leaders by 130 operators, schedule achievement was vital for on-time supply to tight / short delivery schedules with 52% sales to 5 major multiples.

Production Manager 1980 - 1984

Managed 40 operators making more than 1500 m tablets (Anadin, BiSodol), 1000 tons creams (Immac, Anne French, Algipan, Preparation H), 300 tonnes liquids (cough / cold) and 3000 tonnes Kolynos toothpaste per annum.
