Work Experience

MANAGEMENT OF CHANGE
As project manager, I have had direct involvement in the change associated with the merger of four companies into a single operating unit. This large-scale change required my services to co-ordinate & control:

Simultaneous downsizing of one business and expansion of another, Re-organisation of sales network for UK and Ireland, Employee briefings, presentations & counselling, Trade Union & staff consultation (TUPE)
Re-design of organisational structure, Introduction of core and seasonal manpower arrangements
Introduction of annualised working, Staff transfers, relocation and some red circling activity
Distribution depot closures, openings and mergers, Development and use of redundancy selection criteria
Disaster recovery project after a major fire, Revision of job roles and person specifications

POLICY & PROCEDURES
I have successfully developed and implemented a wide range of policies & procedures to cover such areas of activity as Discipline, Grievance, Absence Control, Training & Development, Equal Opportunities, Holiday Arrangements & Quality. These policies have helped to provide a framework for the fair and consistent treatment of employees regardless of their dept., rank or status. The policies and procedures have been incorporated into an indexed manual under a system of controlled issue & update.

RECRUITMENT & SELECTION
Completed numerous campaigns for positions across a wide range of disciplines up to and including senior management level. The activity has been managed from the preparation of job/person specifications, selection of suitable recruitment media through to offer stage. Methods of selection have included assessment centres, occupational testing, panel & succession interviewing. High volume projects have also been completed for two separate Greenfield sites plus graduate & apprentice campaigns and also for large increases in work force due to expansion. I also have experience of the Work Permit system for the employment of foreign nationals.

INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS
Experienced in single union, multi-union and non-union businesses my achievements have included:

The implementation of a single union recognition agreement for a Greenfield start up
Formation of a constituted Works Committee within non-union business
Successful conclusion of numerous salary settlements within company targets
Handling & processing over 600 redundancies in multi-site, unionised environment
Implementation of Annualised Working arrangements in two separate businesses
Development and introduction of various shift working patterns
Development and introduction of revised statements of terms & conditions of employment
Development and introduction of Job Evaluation system to simplify factory pay scales

In addition to the above, I have also considerable experience in absence control, discipline & grievance handling and have chaired internal appeal hearings and co-ordinate any subsequent tribunal/legal activities with the company appointed solicitor and have prepared compromise agreements.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
Experienced in the design and delivery of training programmes I have successfully completed the following projects, some of which have attracted TEC funding: -

Design & delivery of Management / Supervisory development programmes
Design & delivery of a Train the Trainer programme
Implementation of training systems & procedures as part of BS5750 & QS9000 projects
Preparation and delivery of new starter induction packages
Design & implementation of NVQ's as part of operative development & induction
Introduction of competence profiling in support of on the job training of production staff
Facilitating QC Circle activities and training in support of company TQM project
Implementation & co-ordination of Employee Performance Appraisal system
Membership of Training Association
Training needs survey & compilation of approved company training plans & budgets


SALARIES & BENEFITS
Responsible for £10 million payroll with headcount in excess of 700 plus associated benefits. Systems were restructured to reflect financial cost structures. Merged two payroll sections by centralising department in South Wales. Implemented and withdrew a PRP scheme in line with Inland Revenue requirements.



USE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Experienced in the use of spreadsheet, database, word processing, presentation and drawing software, I have utilised computers for the following:

Development of employee database record system
Holiday & Absence monitoring
Production of statistics and reports
E-Mail & Internet use (designed & built own web site)
Production of training materials, handbooks, newsletters etc.

As a consultant, I have also been involved in project definition, analysis, scoping, proposals and business blueprint exercises for adoption of SAP R/3 HR modules by clients. I have personally used PC, Apple Macintosh, networked and main frame based systems.
