2001 – 2002 Director Business Unit Property, Corporate Insurance Company

Bottom line responsibility for the Business Unit Property in The Netherlands (28 employees / GWP € 58.000.000 ) providing property insurance for corporate clients. Key objective is to return BU to profitability.

Main activities and achievements so far include development and implementation of underwriting policy and guidelines, performance management system and new organisational structure. In addition, planning, organisation and direction of a thorough portfolio analysis of the past five underwriting years.

Change management strategy focused on team building and development of mutual trust through frequent and open communication, clear responsibilities and authorities as well as consistent management.

Results after 12 months show a bottom-line improvement of nearly € 8,000,000 and an 80% drop in gross combined ratio.

1998-2001: Manager Business Development Benelux, Corporate Insurance Company

Responsible for the support unit Business Development in Belgium and the Netherlands (17 employees / operating budget 2001: € 2,500,000). Areas of responsibility include marketing, communication, key account management, customer service desk, risk management services, legal services and knowledge management. Interim Manager Sales Belgium (6 employees / Gross Written Premiums 2000: € 150 million).

Responsible for developing corporate strategies, assessing alternatives and understanding future customer requirements to ensure adequate growth and development. Representing the organisation in its relationship with major customers, suppliers and other stakeholders. Developing and restructuring, ensuring high staff productivity and morale. Planning and directing investigations pertaining to associated acquisitions or sale of major assets. Directly reporting to Chief Executive Officer.

Main activities and results include:-

· Restructuring and repositioning of Business Development including activity plans and management control structure;

Responsible for development and implementation of strategies, concepts, policies and procedures in the field of risk management, management control, performance management and business process improvement for various organisations. Advising members of Senior Management, Board of Directors and Supervisory Boards in these fields. Responsible for acquisition, planning, organisation, co-ordination and control of related projects. Managing project teams ranging from 2 to 20 members with assignment fees ranging from € 15.000 to € 150.000 and upward.
Projects realised include:-
• Development of an integrated risk and quality management system for construction materials wholesaler;
• Development and implementation of balanced business score card and restructuring of finance function at construction panel manufacturer;
• Development and implementation of an integrated risk management framework at several organisations;
• Development and implementation of risk-analysis model at railway operator;
• Identification and analysis of major business risks at telecom network operator;
• Restructuring of finance function at multimedia organisation;
• Programme risk management for the development and implementation of a billing & customer care system at an international telecom network operator.
In addition, acquisition and completion of various projects in the field of insurance risk management, including review and marketing of insurance programmes, organisation and review of insurance risk management functions, formulation of risk management strategy and due diligence audits for various organisations.

1991-1995: Risk Management Consultant, Corporate Insurance Company

Responsible for advising large multinationals on developing, organising and implementing international insurance risk management programmes. Worldwide performance of operational and financial risk analysis. Presentation of results and conclusions to operational management. In addition, supporting underwriters in acquiring new business as well as in negotiations with Insureds, brokers and reinsurers, through analysis and presentations.

Also directly involved in the development and implementation of a worldwide risk management consultancy organisation, including strategic consultancy and internal and external marketing. Responsible for the development and introduction of a regional risk management office in the Far East, including internal and external marketing and training and development of local staff.

1987-1990: Adjuster/Loss Control Engineer, Corporate Insurance Company, London, Turin, St. Louis

Responsible for worldwide adjustment of property damage and business interruption losses at mainly Fortune 500 companies. Co-ordination of repairs and assessment of loss amounts in line with policy terms and conditions. Engaging, co-ordinating and controlling technical, financial and legal consultants. Negotiating with financial and operational management of Insureds about coverage and amount of loss. Initially responsible for operational and financial risk analysis and loss control consultancy at insured and prospective locations.
